Roof waterproofing is probably the most important step in the roof installation process because it protects the materials your home was built with, as well as all the things you keep inside. Avoiding a leak collecting in your ceiling is a matter of prevention. Learning about what it takes to waterproof a roof is important so that you can see if your roof needs maintenance, or if a leak was repaired properly.

What Is Roof Waterproofing? Why Do You Need Roof Waterproofing?

Roof waterproofing is the layer of extra protection added to your roof that guarantees no water gets inside your home or starts causing the walls or support beams to rot. There are many causes of roof leaks, with inadequate roof waterproofing at the top of that list.

When you live in Singapore, rain season are part of the routine. Frequent rains will become a huge problem if your home has a roof that hasn’t been properly waterproofed for several reasons:

    • Damage To The Roof Structure

Damage to your roof can be very dangerous if left for too long. Continuous dampness, as well as mold formation, could break down support beams over time, which could cause your roof to collapse in that area.

    • Water Stains On Walls And Ceilings

While not hazardous, these stains are unsightly and very difficult to remove.

    • Moldy And Mossy Exterior Walls

Moss and mold have the potential to add a “cottage in the woods” feel to your home and nothing says neglect quite like the appearance of these in homes that aren’t surrounded by miles of forest.

Why should you choose our roof waterproofing service?

Our roof waterproofing services can help you:

    • Damage Prevention

Waterproofing is the best way to prevent water leakages for your home beforehand. Nonetheless, scheduled roof maintenance after every six months can help reduce the rate of deterioration on your roof. You don’t want to stress up struggling with expenses and the time required for water seepage repairs, not to mention the costly remediation of mold.

    • Evade Health Hazards

Your basement or crawl space needs proper waterproofing to shun away germs and mold. As you may be aware, germs and mold can be harmful to your health and it can be more serious for someone who is suffering from a respiratory condition or a weakened immune system. The good thing is that the process of waterproofing roof is an easy and cost effective way to avert any such risks before they set in.

    • Live Better

Obviously, you don’t want a life of having to deal with dampness and a smelly basement every time there is some showering. On the other hand, it’s even harder to assume the smell in a dumpy house and that means you would have to spend on damp treatment. Luckily, you have the option to make your home waterproof. With that, you can be sure of a safer, dry and much comfortable living space.

    • Safeguard Your Asset

Waterproofing the foundation, crawl space and basement of your home guarantees the protection of the rest of your property. These three areas could face grave effects of water damage, thus every effort ought to be employed to secure them.

    • Energy Efficiency and Simplified Maintenance

A coat of waterproof spray can be formulated with reflective ingredients to keep away infrared radiations from your building. This in return lowers cooling expenses and in the long run, helps you save energy generally.

Besides that, a waterproof coat on your existing roof membrane makes roof maintenance tasks simpler and less extensive. To enhance that, your roofing contractor might decide to use the bitumen or built-up roof.

Method and Technology For Roof Waterproofing

Many people assume that the shingles and tiles of their roofs are all it takes to keep their ceilings from dripping at the first sign of rain when actually these are only the first line of defense against any severe weather.

Depending on what materials were used to construct the various roof components, and how old the roof is, the tiles may crack or fall off, and the shingles may curl, erode, rot, or blow off. This leaves you with an obvious problem, which is why the underlying materials are so important. These include:

    • Base Sheet

A roofing base sheet is the bottom of the waterproofing layers and is usually made of fiberglass, reinforced polyester, or composite reinforcement. Base sheets are the first layer over the decking board and seal the rafters and the roof foundation.

    • Underlayment

The underlayment is a water-resistant material that acts as an extra layer of protection from harsh weather. Roofing underlayment comes in several forms, which differ for sloping and flat roofs.

    • Sloping roof underlayment can be made from 90 pound felt, a tile cap sheet, or modified bitumen (this is installed using hot asphalt, it is a self-adhered underlayment).
    • Flat roofs make use of different fiberglass ply sheets that are mechanically attached and modified bitumen cap sheets which can be  hot-mopped, self-adhered or torch applied depending on the system used.
    • Flashing

Roof flashing is the metal or modified sheets found around vents, skylights, chimneys, and valleys, and at joints on vertical walls. Flashing diverts water from areas where it might accumulate, such as valleys, returns, and hips.

Flashing is generally made from various types of metal, including galvanized, aluminum, copper, or stainless steel.

    • Gutters

Similar to roof flashing, gutters divert water that is collecting on the roof to an area further from your home. Gutters require regular upkeep and maintenance to prevent them from becoming clogged or sagging.

If not positioned correctly when installed, gutters can actually cause roof rot by making waterflow back onto the roof instead of removing it.

PMMA liquid applied waterproofing – no hacking needed

Triflex products are manufactured from PMMA (Poly Methyl Meth Acrylate), a liquid waterproofing system, cold applied, without flame. PMMA-Based Industrial Waterproofing Coating is a solvent-free, rapidly drying liquid membrane system that provides durable, long-term protection from water and corrosion. The coating can be applied quickly and dries in just 60 minutes.

    Rooftop Waterproofing with Triflex

Throughout the year, the roof is exposed to external impacts such as vibration, heat, and chemicals. The junctions and connections to the side walls of a structure are most susceptible to water and moisture ingress, since moisture often enters through these areas. Our fleece-reinforced system can meet these challenges. It is not only a reliable and long-term solution, but also has the ability to deal with complex details and shapes.

    Triflex products – Roof systems

Triflex ProTect – is a fully reinforced waterproofing system for roof areas and other areas of application. It is based on rapid-curing, flexible PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate). The system is applied on site, wet on wet.

    Highly resilient with dynamic crack-bridging.

The fully reinforced system offers a level of flexibility that leaves it unaffected by any movement of the other functional layers.

    Ideal for refurbishments

The system can be applied to virtually all substrates, is vapour-permeable and, with a surface weight of less than 4 kg/m², it is also suitable for application on existing waterproofing systems without negatively affecting stability. This saves removal costs and time.

Waterproof down to the smallest detail

The cured liquid applied waterproofing forms a seamless surface with no joints. Even complex details, such as H-beams, can be easily and homogenously waterproofed using liquid processing technology.

    Short reaction times

The liquid applied system has particularly rapid curing times. The waterproofing resin is fully functional after just one hour. This ensures reliable processing – even in changeable weather and at substrate temperatures of down to 0 °C.

    Flexible application options

Triflex ProTect is used as surface waterproofing on flat roofs. The particularly high-quality liquid applied waterproofing also permits use as waterproofing for waterproof-concrete joints, under other coverings, for ornamental fountains or in other areas in a wide range of system versions.

    Easy to maintain

Triflex ProTect has excellent mechanical and chemical stability. The system can be walked on normally and requires no further overlays as surface protection. The full-surface bonding with the substrate means there is no underflow of rainwater. This means that any leakages are easy to locate and repair.

    Certified safety

Triflex ProTect has obtained European Technical Approval (ETA) and meets the requirements of the Construction Products Directive of the EU (CE marking). Its root resistance is also certified acc. to FLL standards (EN 13948). In addition, Triflex ProTect meets the requirements of DIN 18195 Parts 4 to 7 and DIN 18531 Parts 1 to 4.

Triflex Metal Coat – The metal roof has stood the test of time in the field of industry. Not only

does it provide cost-effective protection against the effects of weather, but an insulated metal roof is also the preferred solution for complying with the new German energy saving regulations. Metals are also used for facade cladding, containers and tanks, pipework and process apparatus as well as many other constructions. Metals that are exposed to the effects of weather as well as mechanical loads corrode at a faster rate, leading to surface rust, blistering rust and eventually scaling. This compromises the functionality of the metal roof. Triflex has almost 40 years experience of using durable waterproofing and

coating systems in the world of building refurbishment. Triflex Metal Coat is a functional coating that was specially developed for metal roofs. It protects against corrosion and prolongs the life of metal roofs and constructions.

Triflex lead from the front. Featuring unique fibre reinforced resin technology that allows the quick and effective waterproofing of virtually all highly complex and restricted access details and penetrations.

Cold applied, fast curing with rapid installation

Rapid curing and easy to install, Triflex allows details to be waterproofed seamlessly and quickly with the waterproofing being rainproof in as little as 30 minutes and cured in 45 minutes. Installation can be carried out all year round and Triflex ProFibre still cures quickly at temperatures down to 0°C. There is also no risk from hot works during installation as all Triflex materials are applied in a totally cold liquid form, curing to create a durable solution that lasts.

    Self-terminating

With Triflex ProFibre there is no need for termination bars as the system fully self-terminates. By forming such a strong bond with the substrate, and thanks to the fibre reinforced technology, the system leaves no opportunity for water to permeate behind.

    Simple application

The system could not be any simpler and easier to apply, just apply using a brush and any detail will be reliably waterproofed.

    The complete solution

Triflex ProFibre is not only a proven stand-alone system, but is also used in conjunction with other Triflex systems and other waterproofing technologies to provide a complete waterproofing solution.
