INSTALLATION OF CEMENTITIOUS WATERPROOFING MEMBRANE AND LEAK SEALING INJECTION OF RUMPUS ROOM
Singapore Waterproofing recently inspected a rumpus room whose outside wall is exposed to bare earth underneath. In the rumpus room, moisture can enter as a result of the high humidity.
The client informed us that water was entering the room through the floor/wall joint between the cupboard and the window, located between the cupboard and the window. The floor/wall joints (cove joints) are susceptible to water seepage and are a common entry point for water.
OUR REMEDIAL WATERPROOFING RECOMMENDATION:
- To reduce the moisture ingress from outside the wall, we recommend installing a polymer modified cementitious waterproofing membrane in multiple layers over a water-based epoxy primer to the back of the rumpus room wall (positive side).
Our waterproof membrane (NSM 100+) is a two-component acrylic modified cementitious coating that is flexible so that it can handle a small amount of movement.
This membrane is a hardwearing, seamless waterproofing membrane for effective concrete protection. It also provides an effective barrier to waterborne salts and atmospheric gases.
A breathable system like the NSM 100+ is available. While repelling water, it allows moisture to pass through slowly as a vapour, allowing the substrate to breathe.
Due to its water-based nature, any vapours are non-toxic and ideal for use in potable water. It can also be painted over with water-based breathable paints (e.g. low sheen or matte acrylics) as well as most water-based after-trades (e.g. direct stick, tiles, render).
- Perform leak sealing injection of the floor/wall joints alongside the inside wall of the cupboard to the window.
The rumpus room’s leaking joints are intersected approximately every 25 centimeters. To create a durable watertight seal within the concrete, inject water-reactive polyurethane resin at high pressure into the targeted 200mm areas.
For a continuous three-dimensional seal buried deep within the concrete, our technicians use proprietary methods honed over thousands of projects.
As the polyurethane reacts and binds with any water present in the crack and surrounding concrete to form a flexible seal, the injection ports are removed and the holes filled with a suitable rapid set concrete repair material.
